We’ve been thinking of a good giveaway for sometime now. While items have passed by way of “possibilities”, nothing has really had the “ah ha” effect (and as we all know, thats what it’s all about… a feeling that is unexplainable yet has the power of explaining everything). We knew of our criteria: unique, one of a kind, one size, and completely our style (that’s what a personal blog is for anyhow right?)We are both overly obsessed with ethnic jewelry. Always scouring hole in the wall stores and hidden gems for unique treasures from far off lands. Between the two of us, our accessories collections come from everywhere but here; Nepal, Indonesia, Turkey, Afghanistan. Beautiful handmade craftsmanship with a story behind the piece… what could be better?
Sooo… yesterday we had the “ah ha” moment when our eyes lay on this handmade necklace from Africa. Handmade by the people of the Tuareg tribe in Niger… the color and design took our eyes for a few spins and the deal was done. Here’s this guys (soon to be yours) stats:- Blue Onyx stone with black Onyx beads.- Handmade with hammer and scalpel.- Reclaimed sterling silver is melted down and welded again(the Sahara doesn’t have access to top sterling silver, so they find used and do what they can with it.)- Stone itself is 1.25″ in diameter and 1.5″ high. Entire pendant piece w/silver inlay work come out as 2″ diameter and 2.5″ high.- Black Onyx beaded strands leave it to fall 9″ long.
Perfect piece for layering with long black or silver necklaces… layer, layer, layer.*our style tip with this (if we were to be greedy and keep it): Buy a foot of good quality sterling silver chain and drape layers on the side rings to extend the necklace and give it even more texture.
Next comes the giveaway game rules. What to do if you want this fine number? Simple and easy dear friends. a.) leave and answer for this question in the comments…”you want this to be your NYE outfit centerpiece… how would you style your outfit?”b.) follow our blog (only if you enjoy it, and if you don’t but still want the necklace… we are open to persuasive arguments).
Whoever gets this gorgeous statement piece can then find heaps of suggestions for wearing it… This opportunity will be open until Midnight on Christmas Eve (12/24), we will announce the winner on Christmas day and ship it via priority on the 26th. There you have it folks. Good luck and good night. Peace & Lovexx Amy and Alex**oh, and those little white speckles simply mean our dear friend Cannon needs a lens cleaning.
… i could style this in a million odd, absurd, eclectic and extravigant ways. But for NYE????Brown Minnetonka fringe boots, black over the knee socks, sheer tights, denim cutoffs, a loose and lazy white Tshirt and a long and crisp black boyfriend blazer, my trustee mink fur hat, a shitload of rings, dark pink lipstick. The necklace would be a star.XOLove this giveaway. Bravo.www.SeekingDirtyHairHalo.blogspot.com

Im from Zimbabwe! African jewelry is amaing. Id style it from my closet this way:Dark black folded skinny jeans, light blue vans, a white shirt, and a black blazer. Id probably end up wearing my hair in a tan hippie headband type thing, golden bangles, and red lipgloss. Id want the necklace to be the brightest most beautiful thing people see of my outfit, so thats why id stick to subtle colors instead of going all out. But, thats just me.

I would keep my outfit pretty simple. A black tube dress with black textured tights and some amazing low ankle booties. (Or maybe the Louboutin studded peep toes for extra bad assness?) This necklace would be the center piece of the outfit but I would also stack some silver bangles high up on both arms for an extra accent.Ashgoldleafashley.blogspot.com

gorgeous. i love blue and silver together. new years is mid summer here so i guess i would style it a bit differently to most people commenting.i would first remove the pendant from the onyx chain and tie a thick black leather cord around the loop at the center, top of the pendant. I would then wear both necklaces separately along with a few chunkier silver chains. I would wear a semi-sheer, white, mid-thigh length summer dress with long sleeves and a scoop neck and a white all-in-one bathing suit underneath. I would wear my hair long, out and natural (probably with flowers in it as i tend to do when i'm bored),and all my layered, silver rings and bangles. I probably wouldn't be wearing shoes as I'll be on the beach all new years but i might wear a dainty silver anklet. it would be the perfect accessory.

Ah thanks for the heads up lovelies, the necklace is so beautiful! Best giveaway I've seen in a while. There are a million and one delicious ideas come to mind but for NYE, it'd have to be a simple, chic affair with an overload of accessories – calf length black dress, black textured shoulder cape, peeptoe boots, fingers dripping with silver rings, ultra long silver chains and a turban hat or headscarf. Perhaps a burgundy lip for drama.

I read all of the other outfit suggestions and I feel I am at a bit of a loss! They all sound so great! I dropped my stomach when I saw this necklace. I can't even believe this thing exists and that you are giving it away!! Holy. I currently have no plans for NYE and may possibly even stay home, but I honestly think the best way to wear this would be totally nude. Like a goddess. (goddesses are always nude in my mind and this necklace belongs to one) Just hair down, bare skin, and the super powers that come with all of that. It looks like a catalyst for transformation or something. Perfect for the symbolism of the new year. Very appropriate giveaway ladies.

Darlings! Sorry I've been MIA, I finally graduated college! I wish you both a happy, happy, holidays filled with joy and christmas cheer π This giveaway is amazing, what a beautiful piece of statement jewelry! Though, I wouldn't expect anything less from you ladies. I've done my fair share of studying african art and culture as it happened to be my favorite area. And as it may be, I have been looking for a perfect necklace to complete my NYE look. And since I'm starting off the new year with grad school apps a little culture to start of my journey would be ideal π I would pair it with a simple black Alexander Wang T open back dress (that I just ordered!), sheer black hose, massive wedge ankle boots, layer it over the simple fine silver chain necklaces I hand made and linked individually, oh and of course I would load up on silver vintage rings. My hair would be long, simple and straight (because thats what it likes to do) with smokey eyes and soft nude lips. Simple and stunning. You never seize to amaze me, your photos as of late are beautiful. Love from Lauren arielandralph.blogspot.comxo

I dare you to guess how I'd wear it… (starts with a c…) I'll be in the mountains, so I'm thinking a camel suede (sort of stained) caftan with a deep slit neck, a silver concho belt, a chunky white knit belted cardigan (go knits!) and a big, teased braid. Oh, and a big glass of Argentinean Malbec. :)I cannot believe you're giving this away. So stunning. XO C

Such a beautiful necklace! I play bass in an Afropop band, so I'd have to style it with my gig-wear: black engineer boots, black & grey striped knee-socks, black tights, African print wraparound skirt, folded up so it fits like a mini-skirt, black boat neck tee, siver rings on my picking hand, silver bangles on my fretting wrist, wild hair, wide black headband, Fender P-bass.

What a gorgeous giveaway! For my NYE it would be this piece, my ancient and beloved Karl Lagerfeld for H&M layered chiffon LBD (the simple front is a perfect backdrop for statement jewelry), royal purple tights covered with wrinkly purple sheer socks in slightly different shade and crazy black, yellow, blue and zebra Kron by Kronkron shoes. I could try to pile on some silver chains in different weights – could even arrange few lightweight ones from ear to ear (hanged from studs) so that they still fall to the chest on the middle – or just let them fall very long, to the sides of the necklace. And for going out I would definitely add one of my two second hand rabbit furs.

i've been following you ever since you commented on my blog a long time ago – http://www.goingwest.net (i bought a domain since your comment)i love a striking blue and silver statement piece. i had two outfits in mind (both for new year's eve, one day, one night)my day outfit would be simple rolled ankle trousers (i have blue ones, but would also go with beige) and my semi-shear black tee with the front just tucked in a bit. i'd wear my black gladiator heels, my silver rings, and keep myself warm outside with a chunky knit cardi. i wouldn't layer the necklace for day because it's such a statement piece, that i prefer it alone. i'd keep is casual with a wang side braid and my usual soft pink eyeshadow and cheeks. naked lips.for night, i'd put on either my black satin slip dress or a black semi-sheer tank dress with sheer dotted or black tights and my black ankle booties. this time, with the outfit being so simple, i'd layer on the silver necklaces and rings. i love messy long rockstar hair, so that's what i'd do for the night outfit and do a purple smokey eye with my favorite smashbox eyeshadow.awesome giveaway! have a good holiday!

What an awesome giveaway…Merry Christmas to whoever wins this!!!How would I sport this necklace? With a gorgeous piece like this, I'd want to show it off. Therefore Id wear it with my black satin shirt dress in order for the blue onyx stone to pop. Black hosiery and my new black platform wedge booties a la Sam Edelman. Will add to this my beige faux fur jacket or brown mix faux fur vest, either will look as good. I wouldn't layer with other necklaces to make this beauty the focus point but will accesorize with chunky rings or bracelets. A great smoky eye will finalize the look!Good luck to all participants!!!Lena xoxohttp://qualityrivets.blogspot.com

This is an amazing giveaway! Would really love to have it in my hands! Hehh.. “you want this to be your NYE outfit centerpiece… how would you style your outfit?”With just a black basic oversized shirt plus my black basic tights and a platform wedges, I would layer this pretty number with chunks and chunks of chains/necklaces. Well of course, the colour of those chains/necklaces should be equally dark so that it won't outshine the main one. Afterall, it's the Blue Onyx Stone here that's making the Spotlight! So you see, it's like we need not have to necessarily wear branded apparels and such so as to flaunt what's beautiful.. Because EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL. It's just the way you carry it out :)Have a Merry upcoming Christmas β€

Amy and Alex,Hi ladies! After quite possibly the longest and hardest deliberation, I figured it would make the most sense (for me) to draw inspiration for an outfit directly from my own closet! Like most people who would absolutely LOVE to own the latest designer “must-haves,” I don't have the resources to make it happen. So, for my entry, I also wanted to present an affordable option. As I perfused through a number of items in my closet, I rediscovered a black lace dress with puffed sleeves (a $25 thrift find – it also came with a slip!) that I thought would make a fabulous canvas for your one-of-a-kind necklace. To add texture to the outfit, I paired the dress with dotted tights ($10 at Nordstrom) and a thin navy studded belt (F21) for a sliver of color. As for the shoes, I selected a pair of black suede caged lace-up wedges from Aldo. I also added silver jewelry, including a gun metal cuff (given to me as a present), a pretzel ring that extends across two fingers from Urban Outfitters, a vintage moonstone ring, and a black and silver ring. As I got even more carried away, I decided I could also pair the outfit with leopard peep-toes from Steven Madden (a “splurge” at $99) and a faux-leather motorcycle jacket ($40 from Wet Seal) with cropped sleeves. Finally, I would add another pop of color against this noir number with bright blue pastel nails. While the outfit in its entirety probably COULD stand on its own, it is clearly longing for that something extra that would make it special and memorable (i.e. YOUR necklace! *grins*). I've attached photos of the said outfit below.
