Here it is folks… the lovely piece we spoke of a few posts back. You remember? The glorious item we found for our next giveaway that we just couldn’t mentally give up?“Hey, look … an untouched vintage bus full of gas all ready to go. What’s this? Our names on an envelope with keys?..”“wow, yeah. Lets give it away!”Here we are defining “kindness”. But really… it’s ready to rest in your closet and be adorned at any and every occasion…. from us to you with unprecedented love and appreciation: the limitless open caftan…
What? This impeccable vibrant caftan situation? oohhhh.
It’s yours.
We found this lovely lady at a local SF vintage store and have been fantasizing the possibilities ever since. This shoot was our tribute and our last goodbye (though it also served as our first hello, the only time we wore it). Sunset at a private Northern California beach, we each styled to our liking and danced away. I took a summer path with high waisted trousers and bandeau top. Alex seemed to incarnate a cousin of our musical/style love “Li” of Lykke Li… effortless hippie glam. Obvious that we would both pile on our favorite accessories: headbands, hats, rings, ethnic necklaces and 1950’s fur. To Enter: Follow (if you haven’t already), and a.) tell us your favorite “era” of fashion (past, present, future, fantastical fantasy…open) and how you see yourself wearing lady caftan or b.) whatever you feel like saying… **Include your email address if you don’t have a blog. International entries welcomed.
Xx love from San Francisco Alex and Amy
Please…. stop this right now! Are you being serious?! First: bravo to both of you. You took my most favorite garment in the world and both made it totally your own, in 2 ways I have never given a go. Stunning, ethereal, and in dire need of a soundtrack. (In fact, I'm listening to Doves “Caught by the River” right now and it's suiting the photos perfectly). So… what do you think, should I enter?? haha… oh ok, twist my center-part braid…My favorite era is mighty hard, given how well current designers are reinterpreting the styles of the 70s in new, purposeful ways. But, there, I said it: I long for one era, and one only: that would be the first 3 years of the 70s—to be specific. 🙂 Eric Clapton had finally given up on Pattie coming back to him (even though he'd “crawl across the floor to [her]”), Duane was gone, Hendrix was gone, and like the eye of a hurricane, things were slowed but on the verge of change; constant, idle, change. CSNY had rocked out as a supergroup, then splintered off to have successful solo careers. Bond's 'Live and Let Die' rocked our socks off with one majorly sexy afro. Badass Chevy Chevelles roamed the streets. Need I say more? How would I wear this? I just got butterflies: distressed, cuffed black leather shorts, grey fringed moccasin boots, a white tank bodysuit (just to let her shine), and an open bottle of Heineken. Casual, backstage style that gets a dose of femininity from the caftan. A little medicine pouch on a cord around my neck with a lock of Chris Robinson's hair in it. Can we do a giveaway for that next?xoCarey @ Corks + Caftans (appropriately enough) 😉

Hey! Thanks for the comment! Love your blog!! I'd have to say a mixture of the 80's and 90's would be my fave era. Leggings and hair of the the 80's with the awesome dresses and skirts of the nineties!I would wear this with faded blue jeans and some brown heels, with a solid colored tee to complement the caftan.laura gerencser at roadrunner dot com

GREAT giveaway girls! This is a fabulous piece 🙂 My favourite era of fashion would have to be the 40's and 50's, ultra feminine, pretty and perfectly put together! The Kaftan – I think i'd wear, wrapped around and cinched at the waist as a dress with some wooden stacked platform heels and pretty gold chains 🙂 http://www.friendinfashion.blogspot.com (email is on here :)xx

Hi Amy and Alex! This is so beautiful! How can you part with it? I saw it on Lookbook and almost died. How would I wear it? Gawd I would make you keep it and wear it with EVERYTHING! No but seriously, isn't it perfect for these beautiful days we've been having in Cali? Skinnies, an oversized tank and a fur collar – oh ya and my Ray Bans. But let's be honest, anything flowing and long catches my eye. Fav era? Hmm I'm a bit of a boho so I would have to say 70s- but I really do love to mix older pieces with new. Clean lines of right now with over sized elements of the past really make for a perfect outfit. Does that make me a minimalist + 70s/Grunge love child? Whatever. Every era has their pros, I think the key is grabbing the best from everything the past has to offer. Hope you girls are doing well up in San Fran! The blog looks great- I just got those Jeffrey Campbell wedges in nude. Can't take them off. Betsywww.razorblonde.com

I would like to imagine these pictures took place because you two headed out in a boat, dress fabulously, got stranded on a deserted island, and decided to dance around the fire to keep warm. I am absolutely in love with this jacket, the colors, the print, the silhouette, endlessly stunning!www.anotherdaytodressup.blogspot.com

One of my favorite shoots yet Ames and Alex! Love love, you two are so beautiful. And our friendship ring in the sand! I love it! My favorite era… the 1920s or 30s. Very great gatsby…elegant, clean lines, red lipstick, rich fabrics, etc. etc. How would I wear the piece… I would probably need your help. But it's so fun to branch out! I love you, so excited to see you guys in March.Hails

You both did an amazing job wearing the Caftan. Love the pictures:) Wow, favorite fashion era is probably the hardest question because So many are amazing and the reason I love fashion today. The 1920's brought Coco Chanel so Love them. The late 1940's introduced the New Look by Dior Love that too. 1940-50's When Claire McCardell introduced affordable, fashionable American Sportswear to us woman how can you not Love that.1960's YSL created his own line and did the safari jkt/peacoat. Also Pucci's prints! 1970's there is Diane Von Furstenburg, wrap dress and Halston. Hot pants and platforms.1980-through now well I lived them so… So I can't give a favorite fashion era cause I love too many. But I would wear your fabulous caftan as a dress belted with this amazing knit silvery grey wrap belt, with lots of necklaces and beaded bracelets. Probably put a Bandeau top underneath so not to hang out and just a pair of slim Havaianas. Yes very casual LA style.XXValerieabutterflybyday.blogspot.com

Thanks for the comment you left me, I absolutely LOVE your blog! And this amazing vintage kaftan = WOW!My fave fashion era is a mix of 70s hippie and 90s grunge… I like to combine the two for a unique look 🙂 so this kaftan would be so perfect for me!I'd wear it over my black lace crop top and high waisted leather skinny trouers, statement heels, and lots of chain necklaces in various tones of gold and silver. I'd wear a hippie forehead band too, and smokey black eyes with lots of lashes. This kaftan would definitley complete the look! 70s rock goddess!Following you 🙂LONDON–ROSE.BLOGSPOT.COM ♥ xx

Thanks for the comment! Man! People have written a lot of sentences lol. I never win these but oh well here goes. I've recently been really into Blair waldorf style or like queen era type clothing. It's so pretty and classy and really cool! The whole vintage feel has gotten to me lol. I love this piece because its vintage lol. But it has this feel that it's comfortable and stylish, but it will still make you look and feel like yourself. It's connected to the queenish era because from what I've learned about it, they wore things with patterns and those kinda cool things. I'd probably wear this with my wedge boots, a simple colored shirt, and my dark skinny jeans. But then I'd get styling lol. I'd wear my moms vintage berret, cool necklaces in colors that match with the piece, and lotsa bangles and jewelry. I loveee bangles! And watches. I'd wear one of those big belts like the long ones. Those crossover type ones from like topshop. And lastly I'd wear the outfit with either a big hobo bag or my little crossover. Thank you!!!!Tariro – savileislove@yahoo.com

Hello Doll!♥ thanks for visiting, I love this so much!!Am a follower no need to check hahahah! And my favorite era is 20’s why? Because for me it was the time when woman cut-off that hair started wearing pants (which we now love) and shorter skirts made way into their closets!! For me it was the start if the liberation of woman which make that era completely special.Well I think this item gives a very care-free vive and it seems like it has a connection with nature, I really feel a Hippie touch is incorporated to the design and a bit of native feel, really this item makes me feel all this! And I could wear it with a dress, I think it would be a lovely contrast something carefree with something mod like a dress.(I would really love to own this♥)(diana@grandtextile.com)Thank you!!!

What a beautiful kaftan. It's one of those items you can throw over any summer outfit to add color, whimsy, or even slight warmth to those chilly nights. Beautiful pictures as well. I always enjoy both of your takes on mixing vintage pieces. My favorite era not only for it's inspiring, colorful, fringe and bead adorned garments, but for it's people's spirit to live free, question authority, experience beauty, and get high (as in really really tall), would have to be the 1960's. Oh how we have lost ourselves in a lost world…I, too, live for my music festivals. It's my only escape back to the 60's and as close as I'll ever get to genuine freedom in this lifetime. This kaftan would be the most perfect passenger on my road trips next to my acoustic, tin cups, hula hoop, and tent…….er…..could replace my tent??? ;)if the above fails, i would wear it with my usual summer get-up: flowy vintage nightgown, unkempt (and probably unwashed) hair, lack of shoes but too much jewelry, and my favorite unicorn hat made from a child's halloween costume.Keep spreading the love ladies. great blog.. following now.. :)that's a tough question! i love so many decades for their fashion, but i'm going to say the 40s. women were effortlessly glamorous and sexy without revealing too much. dresses and coats were made with amazing silhouettes and complemented women's true shapes. they had the best hats back then, too. if only i had a time machine, i'd love to visit that era! *swoons*i can see myself wearing that caftan everywhere and every way. it's such a versatile, yet standout, piece. i'd wear it as a beach coverup, a night gown, a dress, a drapey skirt, a tunic, a scarf, a pair of harem pants (with the help of some safety pins), a cardigan, etc. 🙂 there are endless ways to style this piece, and i would LOVEEE to be the proud owner of it. Oh you beautiful ladies! I have enjoyed so much reading about your adventures and seeing all of your textured photographs! This is truly such a beautiful, soulful and inspiring place! Thank you both so much for giving so much of yourselves here. I am writing, not just to thank you, but to vote for the winner of this miracle Caftan. Please please please award it to Carey of Corks and Caftans. I met her very briefly while I was in New York and Regret terribly that I didn't spend more time with her! In just 2 minutes crouched on the floor next to her, I knew, with absolute certainty that she was very special. She is definitely the rightful owner of this piece and, I am sure you both know, is our kind of girl. I don't know if my testimonial has any sway with you two, but I hope that it does. Thank you both again for everything that you do. I will meet you both someday. Its in my book of things I WILL DO.

There are no eras in fashion that haven't influenced the other, and that's why I cannot pick one in particular. How can one chose from all this beauty? What makes one thing better than the other? Because, without the other, there is nothing.
